The Absolute Best Cabo Restaurants

What You Need to Know

I know it is tempting to follow the crowd and rely on popular restaurants recommended in the touristy areas of Cabo, however by doing that you are missing out on the best Cabo restaurants. There is so much more to Cabo restaurants than nachos, overcooked seafood, and bar food.  By following our insider tips, you’ll learn how to find the best dining spots on your own and hear what we believe are the best Cabo restaurants.

Insider Tips for Finding the Best Restaurants in Cabo

One of the best tips I can give you is to step a block or two off the beaten path.  There you will find amazing hidden gems that are some of the best restaurants in Cabo.  You’ll find everything from family-run taquerias serving street tacos to small seafood restaurants with recipes passed down through generations.  These local favorites provide a genuine connection to the region’s culture and culinary traditions. Here are our insider tips to help you uncover Cabo’s hidden culinary gems.

Ask the Locals: One of the best ways to find the best Cabo restaurants is by simply asking the locals, whether it’s your hotel concierge, a friendly taxi driver, or a fellow traveler you meet. Locals often have the inside scoop on hidden gems that may not be listed on websites or in reviews. While you’re at it, try asking for specific dishes they recommend or places that offer unique culinary experiences.

Read Reviews: Overall, you can’t go wrong with the honest recommendations from other travelers. Personally, TripAdvisor is my primary source for restaurant reviews, however we’ve also used Yelp from time to time.  When pursuing reviews, look at the reasons each restaurant receives high ratings (signature dishes, house margarita, amazing views, friendly services, etc.).  These tips will provide a good feel for why others like it.

Keep in mind, you shouldn’t solely rely on the top 10 restaurants.  Sometimes you’ll find the best Cabo restaurants are a little farther down, only because they aren’t located in the marina or other touristy areas. You want to pay attention to what people say, not just how highly a restaurant is ranked.

Also, if you a exploring reviews on TripAdvisor, and find a restaurant with numerous 5 star reviews, take a look a the individual “reviewers” and how many reviews they’ve previously posted. In general, I give less credence to reviews from individuals who’ve only reviewed one or two places. Although it isn’t always the case, there is a higher likelihood that those are not authentic reviews.

Explore Neighborhoods: Cabo is made up of distinct neighborhoods, each with its own unique culinary offerings. Instead of sticking to one area, venture out and explore different areas to find a variety of dining experiences. From the trendy art district of San Jose del Cabo to the lively Marina area, each area has its own charm and a range of dining options to discover.

Follow Food Blogs and Social Media: In today’s connected world, food blogs and social media can be valuable resources for finding the the best Cabo restaurants. Many food bloggers and influencers share their personal recommendations and experiences online, giving you a sneak peek into the local food scene. Follow them to stay updated on the latest restaurant openings, hidden gems, and must-try dishes.

Take a Food Tour: Another great way to dive deeper into Cabo’s culinary scene is by joining a guided food tour. These tours often take you to off-the-beaten-path eateries and introduce you to local flavors and traditions. A knowledgeable guide can provide insights into the history and culture of Cabo’s cuisine, making your dining experience even more enriching.

Misiones De Kino

BEST CABO RESTAURANTS: TABLE AND CHAIRS IN A GARDEN SETTING

Don’t miss out on this hidden gem just off the beaten path—a place where garden dining and twinkling lights transport you to a Mexican oasis.

It holds the top spot as our favorite restaurant, earning our vote as the best mid-range dining spot in Cabo. Every visit to Cabo sees us returning here, often multiple times per trip.

Their menu offers a delightful array of seafood and authentic dishes crafted from the freshest ingredients, easily rivaling the offerings of high-end restaurants in Cabo.  Any of their dishes with their magical and garlicky chipalla sauce, will keep you coming back for more.

And, the margaritas and pina coladas are unparalleled in Cabo. The margarita strikes the perfect balance between tequila and lime, with just the right touch of somethign else to soften the citrus edge. And the pina colada? Oh, it’s a creamy, coconutty delight—a true adult milkshake.

At first glance, this might seem like just another hole-in-the-wall spot, but don’t be fooled. This family-owned restaurant measures up Cabo’s other popular restaurants. While it may not boast the lush garden setting of some competitors, it exudes a vibrant and lively atmosphere. The room buzzes with couples and groups, sharing laughter and smiles after savoring their delightful margaritas or the house specialty—the ‘bulldog.’

What’s a bulldog, you ask? It’s their in-house creation that cleverly combines a margarita with a Corona beer. Surprisingly delicious, this concoction can be served with or without an extra bit of flair as they ‘shoop, shoop, shoop’ the foamy Corona into the margarita. While Maro’s is family-friendly, the saucy bulldog presentation has been known to leave a few blushing, yet it adds to the lively vibe.

The food consistently impresses with its freshness and flavor, at a pocket-friendly price. Patrons adore their steak, lobster, and shrimp prepared in various delectable ways, as well as their mouthwatering guacamole. However, any selection from their menu are sure winners.

La Casona Steakhouse

BEST CABO RESTAURANTS: SEAFOOD RISOTTO WITH BROCOLI AND SHRIMP

Don’t miss out on this beautiful restaurant nestled within the gardens of Villa La Estancia. Although a bit further down Medano Beach, it’s a quick taxi drive or a leisurely 20-minute stroll from downtown.

La Casona offers both patio and indoor dining, each providing a charming ambiance.

Beyond their selection of tender, juicy, and perfectly-prepared steak and seafood dishes, they offer a full bar and an extensive wine collection. Whether you savor the seafood risotto, shown above, or indulge in the steak and lobster, the experience will have you coming back for more.

Admittedly, La Casona’s price point sits higher than some other options. However, the extra touches—such as offering warm hand towels, a variety of fruit options for your water, and a special pre-meal treat—add a luxurious touch to your dining experience. Despite the higher cost, we find ourselves returning every time we’re in Cabo.

Sunset Monalisa Cabo is one of the top-rated restaurants in Cabo San Lucas, boasting over 7,000 five-star reviews on TripAdvisor.

El Farron

BEST RESTAURANTS CABO SAN LUCAS: El Farallon Restaurant

El Farallon sits cliffside on the Pacific side of Cabo.  Located at the beautiful Waldorf Astoria, you will find yourself in awe of the stunning view. El Farallon offers a fine dining experience and is the most expensive in this list of restaurants.

If you arrive at the Waldorf Astoria with extra time, you can enjoy a cocktail and the shown view above.  Be forwarned that these cocktails come with a premium price.

To reach the restaurant, you walk less than five minutes down a winding concrete pathway. Upon checking in, you will be offered a seat in their champagne bar to enjoy the view as they prepare your table.

BEST RESTAURANTS CABO SAN LUCAS: El Farallon Restaurant

Upon checking in, you will be offered a seat in their champagne bar to enjoy the view as they prepare your table.

They offer a variety of champagnes in 3 or 6-ounce glasses. In the summer of 2024, prices ranged from $27 to $99 per glass.

BEST RESTAURANTS CABO SAN LUCAS: El Farallon Restaurant

The menu from our visit is shown above.  The cost included bread, soup, main course, and dessert.  All options were available gluten-free.

El Farallon offers a stunning sunset that you want to take advantage of. I recommend dining pre-sunset because, after sunset, it becomes pitch black very quickly. For us, the sunset view is what piqued our interest in El Farallon.

Trudy Tip: Also, most tables are next to the ocean, and the breaking ocean waves occasionally spray a fine mist or shower that rains down on those sitting oceanside.

It also gets chilly once the sun sets. When you arrive at 80-90-degree temperatures, you don’t expect the temperature to drop so quickly, and as the ocean breeze picked up, we were quickly shivering. The servers offered some customers blankets, but I would highly recommend bringing a jacket.

Neither of these things should deter you from the experience, and I would just suggest planning accordingly.
